Personal Statement:
“Sports have played a significant impact in my life. Growing up in Southern California I enjoyed participating in sports year-round including soccer, baseball, basketball, and football. In my sophomore year of high school I was invited by the football coaching staff to tryout for the varsity team at Mira Mesa High School in San Diego, CA. This was my first year of organized football. Mira Mesa was a large public school with a history of producing top college and professional football players including Mike Pittman (NFL – Denver Broncos). I was intimidated, insecure, and down right terrified of what was ahead. That first year of football was a turning point in my sports career and my life as the coaches at Mira Mesa changed my life by instilling something I never had, CONFIDENCE. I also quickly learned that hard work, discipline, and a shear nasty streak was what began to define my position as a standout offensive/defensive lineman.”

Recruiting Experience:
“After my senior year of Football as a 1st Team All-CIF San Diego section player I began to realize that my dream of landing on a Division 1 football team was not going to be easy, as a 6’2” 255 lb. offensive lineman. I was lost and didn’t have a clue of the college football recruiting process; I only spoke to the colleges that had contacted me. At the end of my senior school year the colleges that were showing a lot of interest initially were gone. But, I was lucky; my high school coaches were genuinely interested in helping me obtain my dream of a DI roster spot. I had other opportunities at D-II and D-III schools but my heart and pride were set on playing for a Division I program. The next best option was a local community college (Mesa College – San Diego, CA) where I ended up learning something about humility going 0-10 BACK TO BACK seasons! Along with that humility I learned that if I wanted to play DI football I was going to have to work harder, play smarter, and continue to play until the whistle blew every play. With determination, after my sophomore season of football, I finally achieved my goal and had earned a spot on the football team at San Jose State.

Sports have had a great impact in shaping my life. Everyday I find that the lessons and discipline I learned through have given me a competitive edge in the business world. I count my blessings and I’m glad to see that sports continue to bring so much joy and opportunity to our communities, families, attitudes, and livelihood!”
