Jakob Newman We would like to congratulate Jakob Newman on his commitment to Brandeis University. Here are Jakob’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Judge! 1. Share your recruiting story and status! This was a very interesting process for me. When I entered high school, I really did not expect to play college baseball and no one around me thought I would either. I entered high schools as a catcher, but pitching really saved me and I ended up being recruited primarily as a pitcher. After the countless showcases and games during the summer, I essentially narrowed my list down to five schools, and when I heard that I could get into Brandeis academically, I almost immediately pulled the trigger. 2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I am going to Brandeis University. I am going there because it is in a competitive D3 conference, it has amazing academics, it’s located in a city I am really interested in living in, and it is near family. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? SportsForce made me realize that playing at a strong academic D3 was possible and did a great job helping me get the work done that I needed to do. I was really lost as to where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do and if playing in college was even possible. SportsForce lit the way for me and showed me what my realistic goals were and how I was going to go about achieving them. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? I would say to other players that playing college baseball is not as daunting as it sounds. Truly anything can be accomplished with the right work ethic and with realistic goals. Also, do not be totally consumed in the stats and numbers. Make a relationship with coaches, be impressionable, and play your hardest. 5. How excited are you about your future in college? I am extremely excited. It has been a dream of mine to play at the next level and I am ecstatic to get started. 6. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why? I would because SportsForce has really great methods of communicating with coaches and data that helps you know who is responding and who isn’t. They also do a great job of putting things into perspective and making the recruiting process straightforward and meaningful.   Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision. Gavin Napier We would like to congratulate Gavin Napier on his commitment to St. Mary’s College of California! Here are Gavin’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Gael!
1. Share your recruiting story and status!
The process can be long and frustrating at times. I had had some contact with coaches prior to working with SF, but not enough to make me feel comfortable that I was doing everything possible to maximize my exposure. We joined SportsForce and had meetings with Andrew who helped explain the current recruiting process and provided guidance and direction on how the entire process works. SportsForce helped us make contact with a lot more coaches and we saw increased communication and interest from schools. I stayed true to myself and my baseball skill sets, worked hard, and naturally gravitated towards the schools that were best suited for me, my style of play, the type of coaching style I prefer and most importantly the education I would receive. Just stay consistent to your own process, be diligent following up with coaches, put the work in and good things will pay off. I committed in October of my Junior year.
2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I will be attending St. Mary’s College of California. I chose them because I personally felt it was the best fit for me. The reasons I felt St Mary’s was best for me was easy; great school, I really liked the coaches, they showed a lot of interest in me and really wanted me to play there. They also play a similar style of baseball that I play, and I have a chance to play and contribute as a freshman. They were able to come up with a nice scholarship offer and the school is close to home. At the end of the day my decision came down to what is the best fit for me, and it became clear that the decision was St Mary’s. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? SportsForce helped us identify potential schools to consider/pursue. They also helped us understand the timing of when coaches can reach out to student-athletes, when they can’t, how they can, in general how the process goes, what to expect, and Andrew is very connected within the collegiate baseball world and was able to get feedback for us which helped inform us throughout the process. SportsForce also helped us evaluate which events to attend, which ones not to attend based on which schools were attending or on past experience. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? I would recommend getting involved in the process as early in your high school career as you can. Start by having your parents take video of your in-game AB’s. Get a promotional video made and post to YouTube. Identify which schools you would like to potentially attend and as you start to make contact with those coaches you can send them links to your videos. I would also attend as many showcases and camps of potential colleges you would like to attend to get exposure. Once contact has been made with a college coach, stay diligent in your follow up phone conversations (I recommend keeping a log of when you called each coach and what was discussed and any follow-up action items) and let them know where you will be playing so they can see you play. 5. How excited are you about your future in college? I am very excited to start my baseball career at St Mary’s. The team has shown tremendous growth over the past few years and I really like the coaching staff. They are extremely dedicated and have developed a program that is proven on the field.
6. How much money do you estimate your family saving in college expenses over the entirety of your college career? Based on my scholarship offer, my family is saving an estimated $240,000 over my college career.
7. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why?
I would recommend SportsForce to any student-athlete who needs help in understanding the recruiting process. There is a lot that goes into it, and having someone to lean on that knows the rules of engagement, has the contacts, has a proven system that works is a huge help. SportsForce provides help in making contact, developing videos, advice on how to handle specific situations, academic advice and the list goes on.   Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision. Andy Concialdi We would like to congratulate Andy Concialdi on his commitment to Hope International University! Here are Andy’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Royal!
1. Share your recruiting story and status!
I committed to play baseball at Hope International University in Fullerton during my Senior year of high school baseball. The process for me was determining what the best schools were and then getting seen by them. I am very happy that HIU saw me play at a showcase and offered me a scholarship. I immediately thanked them but also asked for some time to make my decision. I got back to HIU about mid-season and accepted their scholarship to play baseball at Hope International University. I had opportunities to play at five schools, two of them being out of state. I decided I wanted to remain in California and play baseball here. I was extremely appreciative of all the opportunities.
2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I chose to play baseball at Hope International University because of the fantastic program, coaches, and players. HIU has built a winning program and I want to be a part of that. Also, I believe HIU is the school for me because I love that it is a Christian school and I knew I wanted to play baseball at a Christian school. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? SportsForce helped tremendously with the entire process. They answered every question and gave me and my family outstanding advice. They are great about responding and also have lots of patience to deal with very busy high school baseball players. I could not have asked for a better experience with SportsForce. I enjoyed the frequent calls with SportsForce (Andrew, Darrell and Ryan) that kept me accountable for what I was doing and made sure I stayed on track with the recruiting process. SportsForce really cares about the athlete and wants what is best for them. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? My advice would be to keep updating new and fresh game highlights. Video can help a lot with a coach being interested in you. Keep in mind, a video is great, but coaches need to see you perform in person. Be patient and keep a positive attitude. 5. How excited are you about your future in college? I cannot wait to start my baseball career with the HIU Baseball Team. I am truly blessed to be a part of such a great school and baseball program. I only have good things to say about HIU. 6. How much money do you estimate your family saving in college expenses over the entirety of your college career? (Includes, Athletic scholarships, Academic scholarships, & financial aid)

Over my four years in college, I anticipate saving around $75,000 because of Athletic and Academic Scholarships.

7. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why?
Yes, I would recommend SportsForce to other student-athletes. SportsForce has helped me tremendously with the recruiting process. This process is different for every player and comes with hundreds of questions. The SportsForce team has been very patient and very helpful with answering all of our questions and concerns. They have recommended certain events to attend in order to be seen and have advised certain events that I would be wasting money going to. They are very good at what they do. I extremely appreciate them for everything that SportsForce has done for me. They are great people!   Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision. Adam Pahos We would like to congratulate Adam Pahos on his commitment to Southeastern Community College! Here are Adam’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Blackhawk!
1. Share your recruiting story and status!
I started my journey in early 2017, we didn’t have much knowledge of the college system and how to reach out to college coaches and get the process started. The process is shorter than we first expected, we thought we would have to commit to a school before the new year which we now know isn’t the case. I committed to my school on 4/17/2018.
2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I will be going to Southeastern Community College in Iowa. I chose them because they have other Aussies players there, and they all had very positive feedback about the school and baseball program 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? SportsForce helped by giving us the tools to be able to reach numerous college coaches in the United States, despite being from Australia. They helped put together a good highlight video and quality advice on how to email and talk to the coaches. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? Start the process early so you aren’t in a big rush to find a place. Start collecting lots of game footage as well as training footage that will help show off your skill set. 5. How excited are you on your future in college? I am very excited to go to college, it has been a dream of mine ever since I found out about college baseball in America and am very excited to start this new chapter in my life.
6. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why?
I would recommend SportsForce to any other student-athlete because they are very knowledgeable in the college scene, were easily accessible to talk to at any time and make the search for a college very easy.

Jake Lawrence We would like to congratulate Jake Lawrence on his commitment to Trinity University! Here are Jake’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Tiger! 1.Share your recruiting story.

The process was stressful as expected, but SportsForce, as well as my high school coaches, were very helpful in guiding me. I got exposure through team tournaments and showcases and started receiving attention my junior year. When I started playing varsity, I eventually received offers during the fall of my senior year. I decided between several Division 3, high academic universities and committed in February of my senior year.

2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them?

I chose Trinity University because it was a great combination of high-level baseball and quality academics. I also think very highly of the coaching staff and respected the players I met during my visit. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? I was fortunate that my high school program and coaches were able to help me get exposure. But Andrew and the SportsForce team helped me organize my reach out to coaches after showcases and, most importantly, helped prepare me to effectively communicate with coaches by having prepared answers to the typical things they ask as well as have questions ready for them. I don’t think I would have made a very good first impression without SportsForce’s help. Andrew also helped guide me in deciding which showcases would be the best to attend so that we didn’t waste a ton of money and time trying to go to all the ones I got invited to. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? I think many would tell you to start as early as possible, but I’m not sure that would have been the right thing for me. Up until spring of my junior year, I mostly played shortstop and focused primarily on fieldwork and hitting. Turns out that I was a better pitcher than middle infielder and that’s what got coach interest. I am now a PO and don’t think I would be playing high-level college baseball if I’d stayed the path of infield/hitting. So waiting until I developed some as a player was better for me. I also used actual game footage for my video which I heard from many coaches they liked better than the more typical, non-game highlight videos. [Mostly applies to Pitching] 5. How excited are you on your future in college? I am very excited that I get to live my dream of playing college baseball. Trinity University is a great overall fit for me and I’m not sure I would have gotten there without baseball being part of the process and decision. 6. How much money do you estimate your family saving in college expenses over the entirety of your college career? Division 3 schools don’t give athletic scholarships but I did receive the academic Trustee’s Scholarship from Trinity for $22,000 per year or $88,000 for the full four years. 7. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why?

I would recommend SportsForce because they helped me navigate the recruiting process which can be confusing, stressful and exhausting. They definitely helped find the right fit for me in terms of a baseball program and school. I appreciate all they did to help me and my family.

Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision. Maeve Hungerford

We would like to congratulate Maeve Hungerford on her commitment to Colorado Mesa University! Here are Maeve’s recruiting story and interview after her commitment. Good luck as a Maverick!

1. Share your recruiting story and status

I knew I wanted to play lacrosse in college early on. It is an intimidating process and despite all the camps, club, and tournaments I had no idea where I wanted to go to college, what constituted a “good fit”, or what I should be looking at with regards to lacrosse programs. My dad would talk to me about colleges, towns, or coaches and I just didn’t fully understand what he was talking about. After joining SportsForce in 9th grade, Coach Andrea Ervay was assigned to me as my mentor. We would talk by phone every few months and she would ask about my grades, how lacrosse was going and helped keep me on track. The one thing both Coach Ervay and my dad said was grades came first and lacrosse comes after. I definitely stalled out in my process during junior year. It was hard enough trying to handle school and lacrosse and I didn’t want to think about college yet. However, being with SportsForce helped as all communication that was or wasn’t doing was in a central place and easy to keep track of. Summer after my junior year, my dad helped me narrow down my options and then we visited campuses and met with coaches. While I hate to admit it, my dad was right in that going to the campuses was the most helpful thing in my recruiting process. There were quite a few D2 and D3 coaches that were interested and the websites for all the schools made them all look awesome. However, I didn’t realize how truly far away, or how I would feel on campus, the size of school I was looking for, and the geographic location until I got on campus. Visiting the schools really helped and I was able to rank them better after getting offers and an idea of location, cost, and lacrosse program. I was really surprised at the results. A few schools I had thought I really would like, I didn’t, and a few that I didn’t think I would like at all, ended up enjoying them. Ultimately I narrowed everything down and when I was offered by an in-state school (which I had always thought I wanted to go out of state) that I really liked the lacrosse coach and location/cost, it was an easy decision. If I hadn’t made all those visits, I think I might have made some choices I would regret.

2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them?

I will be attending and playing at Colorado Mesa University (DII) in the RMAC. Ultimately I decided to become a Maverick because the campus was beautiful, it had all the academic programs I needed and wanted, the facilities are unreal, and I really liked the lacrosse coach. Also, as I said before, I thought I wanted to go out of state, but everything seemed really far away when it got down to it. CMU is close enough to access my parents and friends in Denver but far enough away they won’t be randomly knocking on my dorm door.

3. How did SportsForce help in the process?

SportsForce helped in many ways. For me, the constant reminder to fill out my contact sheet, the accountability knowing that I had to schedule a talk with Coach Ervay from time to time, and the ability to have all my recruiting stuff in one place ended up being crucial. My dad says that for him as a parent, it was really nice to deal with Darrell (Client Services) and Coach Ervay as his only contacts, that the site was easy to use and update, and that he only had to pay once for four years of ongoing help. The database of schools, coaches, and contact information ended up being really helpful. I didn’t realize this until some of my teammates started trying to get recruited and I realized what a struggle getting a film, making contact with coaches, and then keeping all that straight was. SportsForce truly made all that easy.

4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process?

I would say that getting good footage of your play is key. Also, after meeting with many coaches during this process, I found that they don’t always want to see your best plays, they want to see everything. If you start using film from 9th grade and as a sophomore, you improved, it is ok to show how something wasn’t awesome but now it is. The coaches mentioned they like to see coachability and progress more than your most awesome plays (include those of course), or something where you made a mistake but showed hustle to get the ball back (the words tenacity, speed, and attitude come up a lot).

My dad wanted me to be sure and mention that campus visits and patience were what helped most as a parent. I know he was frustrated with me but was kind enough to let me figure stuff out on my own to some degree. The visits helped because I really got a feel right away whether I liked the college or not. I talked to a lot of coaches on the phone and the campuses always sound awesome, but until I got there I knew pretty quickly whether it would make my short list or whether I wasn’t interested anymore.

#1 piece of advice….. KEEP YOUR GRADES UP. It turns out both colleges and coaches want to know about those first before you even start talking about lacrosse. Also, so many avenues open up for financial help when your GPA is as high as you can keep it and you do well on the SAT/ACT. It makes coaches much more interested because as one coach told me “it shows you are serious about coming here for all 4 years and that you have the chops to succeed”.

5. How excited are you about your future in college?

I am really excited to start college and get to play lacrosse too. I think I took a long time to commit/sign but I think I found a really good fit, one that I will be successful at academically and enjoy playing lacrosse.

6. How much money do you estimate your family saving in college expenses over the entirety of your college career?

Over the 4 years, it likely will add up to about 40k.

7. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why?

My family would absolutely recommend SportsForce to other student-athletes. By starting with them early in 9th grade, the cost was essentially for 4 years of service rather than a blitz right at the end of high school. Also, while I did ultimately want a scholarship for athletics, SportsForce provided another outside source of motivation and accountability that helped me stay on top of my grades and ultimately receive scholarship money for my academics as well. There is no way I or my parents could have done all the research and communications with the effectiveness or ease that SportsForce provides. Darrell and Coach Ervay were patient and understanding, as well as very attentive whenever we needed something i.e. game footage compilations, questions about NCAA rules and how to get a number, as well as keeping the communications list up to date.

Over the last six years, SportsForce has helped over 1,000 student-athletes and families successfully navigate the college recruiting and athletic scholarship process while saving families on average $50,000 in college expenses.

Angelo Zorn We would like to congratulate Angelo Zorn on his commitment to Occidental College! Here are Angelo’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Tiger! 1. Share your recruiting story and status I was recruited by some Division 3 liberal arts schools which I had mutual interest with. I visited these schools the summer after my junior year of high school and chose to apply early to a small school in PA. The school was on the east coast, it was a small liberal arts school, and I was told I would be a contributor on a winning team right away — three things I highly desired in my school, so it seemed like a good fit. Unfortunately, I did not get admitted to the school ED and had to search some more. Application deadlines for the regular decision were approaching so I put together applications to other schools I had been talking to, in hopes of getting in on my own. After gaining acceptance to Occidental College I spoke with the Head Coach Luke Wetmore and he said that from what he’d seen I would have a good shot of making the team for the next spring. I had sent him my SportsForce video. Oxy was high on my list of remaining schools and I decided to enroll. I made the team in the fall and look forward to a successful spring. 2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I am going to Occidental College because it is a small liberal arts school with intense academics mixed with a winning baseball program and excellent coaching staff. It offers a good balance of sports with school which will help me grow into the person I want to be. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? SportsForce helped set up a webpage with all my information and accomplishments as well as a video which I could send to coaches at schools I was interested in. The skills video that SportsForce put together showcased the right skills of mine which were attractive to coaches. Another great thing that SportForce helped set up for me was a personal recruiting e-mail that I used to communicate with coaches and SportsForce even helped introduce me to college coaches that were effective in gaining interest. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? I would advise future players to reach out to the coaches at schools they are most interested in early in high school and tell them that you have interest in their school and inform them about events that you will be at to show your skills. The most important thing is to work as hard as you can at your game and stay focused on always getting better because that is what coaches are looking for. 5. How excited are you about your future in college? I’m very excited for my future at Oxy. I want to make my teammates better and contribute to the team’s success. This season is going to be an everyday grind with a lot of baseball and still reaching high academic success. I plan to study Math and Economics and gain some work experience to prepare for my life after baseball as well. 6. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why? I would recommend SportsForce to other student-athletes because their advisors are helpful and knowledgeable about the new ways that recruiting works. They understand and teach you the best ways to be recruited by the schools that you want to go to most. Take advantage of their expertise as much as you can because SportForce is there for you!   Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision. Phillipe Roy Baseball We would like to congratulate Phillipe Roy on his commitment to VCU! Here are Phillipe’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Ram! 1. Share your recruiting story and status It all went from slow and talking to some schools and then I played in some big tournaments which helped generate some interest and calls from a lot of schools. I was then invited to a few camps. One of the schools I went to was VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University), after my visit and camp, I fell in love with the school and felt it was the best spot for me. 2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I’m going to VCU because I love the coaching staff and the way they play the game. I also loved the campus and the environment around the campus. The facilities are top grade and the coaching staff was really proactive in talking to me all the time. I think I’ll be able to play when I get there, which was very important to me. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? They helped by assisting me in contacting colleges and sending my video to different colleges which generated interest from them. They also helped me with phone calls and preparing for campus visits. They gave me advice on what to ask college coaches and also helped with my final decision-making process. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? Go to some showcases and start being seen by colleges, while also sending out videos to them. Try not to rush your commitment, take the time to make sure the college is the right fit for you. 5. How excited are you about your future in college? I’m really excited about going to VCU and learning there and trying to win a lot of games with them. 6. How much money do you estimate your family saving in college expenses over the entirety of your college career? About $48,000 to $52,000. 7. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why? Yes, I would because they helped so much with just talking to coaches and contacting them and kind of giving you guidelines on what to say and do when talking to coaches. They also provided guidance in sending out videos to different colleges and when/how to call them. SportsForce was helpful in gauging the college coaches’ interest and what steps to take in order to get more interest.   Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision. Calvin Koo We would like to congratulate Calvin Koo on his commitment to Claremont McKenna! Here are Calvin’s recruiting story and interview after his commitment. Good luck as a Stag! 1. Share your recruiting story and status The recruiting process for me really started during the fall of my junior year when I participated in my first official showcase. This was where I met Ryan and SportsForce. Ryan and the awesome SportsForce team helped me get myself on the recruiting map by starting off with an intro recruiting email to send out to my list of colleges and a recruiting video. They also helped me make this list of schools and it was only after I met Ryan that I really understood what school was the best fit for me both athletically and academically. I started to receive feedback from schools and I felt well prepared going into my important junior year summer. While I had contact with many schools, Claremont McKenna reached out very early in the process as Coach Walkenbach first saw me at a GBG Scout Day in the first month of summer. I attended a Headfirst Camp, Stanford Camp, Arizona JO’s, and two specific college camps on the East Coast during the summer. Ryan and SportsForce helped me along the whole journey. After Stanford Camp ended in July, Coach Walkenbach at CMC gave me my first offer during this time. I officially committed in September of my senior year. 2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them? I am committed to attend Claremont McKenna College and I chose this institution because of the balance between strong academics and competitive baseball. I love the atmosphere and the people at Claremont and I highly respect Coach Walkenbach and his vision for the program. 3. How did SportsForce help in the process? SportsForce helped in the process by helping formulate my list of schools, sending out emails, and creating videos to send to college coaches. SportsForce really helped me just concentrate on just playing baseball and not have to worry too much about the more intricate details of the recruiting process. 4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process? The most important advice of the recruiting process would be to truly find the best fit for you as a student-athlete. Before getting help, I didn’t really understand what school was the best fit for me and I fell into the trap of only looking at prestige or renown. Once I really understood what type of school was personally the best fit for me, I was able to commit to what I was doing instead of having to hop around from showcase to showcase. In addition, this clarity helped put me at peace as to whether I was rejected or offered by any of the colleges on my list. There were no “what-ifs” or regrets when I made my final decision. Furthermore, coaches want players who are genuinely interested in attending their school because this passion is what wins championships. If you are aiming for a school you truly want, this genuine interest will naturally be evident and it will not only be better for appeal but your own commitment to the process as well. 5. How excited are you about your future in college? I am extremely excited to attend CMC and am blessed to be able to look forward to my future. 6. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why? I would recommend SportsForce to other athletes because of the time and energy that you save by focusing on a more efficient approach to recruiting. SportsForce helps you not waste time on pointless showcases or unhelpful emails and really targets on important tasks such as making a recruiting video and attending beneficial showcases. Ryan is not just an extremely helpful recruiting counselor, but also a person, friend, mentor, and coach. He really helped me along the process in various ways, not just recruiting but as a coach and helped me develop as a player and person. I would like to truly thank him for his help.   Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball: We are on a mission to help our select number of qualified and evaluated players maximize their recruiting offers and make the best college decision.
