Sport: Baseball Positions: LHP Height: 5’10″ Class: 2010 School: Torrey Pines High School San Diego, CA

Left-handed pitcher, Joey DeNato threw a no-hitter against Fallbrook as part of Torrey Pines three game sweep of the Warriors. DeNato allowed just one walk and struck out 14 batters during the game. It was the second straight shutout for the senior as his record improved to 7-1 for the season. DeNato is also tied for the CIF San Diego Section home run lead this season. He is committed to Indiana.

Sport: Boys Volleyball Positions: Middle Back, Outside Hitter Height: 6’2″ Class: 2010 School: Hoover High School San Diego, CA

Senior Jorge Cabrera helped to lead the Cardinals to a conference win that put them in first place in the Central League. Jorge and the Cardinals defeated Clairemont 3-2, giving them a 9-0 record in their league. Jorge finished the night with 32 kills, 24 digs and 10 blocks. The Cardinals record stands at 15-2.

Sport: Track and Field Positions: Sprinter (200m, 100m) Class: 2010 School: Santa Fe Christian Solana Beach, CA

Jenna Puterbaugh broke the 24 second mark in the 200 meter at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend. Jenna’s time of 23.70 is the second fastest time recorded in the US this year. The Santa Fe Christian senior took first place with the record breaking time just hours after taking first in the 100 meter with a time of 11.76. Jenna is committed to USC.

Sport: Baseball Positions: CF Height: 6’0″ Class: 2010 School: St. Augustine High School San Diego, CA

Team captain and outfielder for the Saints, Connor Hofmann helped lead his team to the City Conference Tournament title. The Saints captured the title with a 7-5 win over the equally strong Scripps Ranch. Connor was the lead-off batter and in six tournament games went 10-for-19 (. 526) with 10 RBIs, eight runs scored, three doubles, a home run and six stolen bases.

Sport: Baseball Positions: Catcher Height: 6’3″ Class: 2010 School: Scripps Ranch High School San Diego, CA

Wynston Sawyer, batted .700 with two home runs and eight RBIs at the Lions Baseball Tournament this past weekend. This performance earned Wynston the recognition of being named the MVP of the 6A Division for the tournament. Wynston also contributed to the now 12-2 Scripps Ranch Falcons with two doubles, five walks, three stolen bases and six runs scored.

Sport: Baseball Positions: Pitcher Height: 5’11” Class: 2010 School: Canyon Crest High School San Diego, CA

Canyon Crest Academy senior Matt Malott entered elite company, when he pitched a perfect game against Bloomfield, Colorado, in the La Jolla Country Day tournament at Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, CA. Matt struck out ten batters in his dominant seven inning performance with a variety of pitches including a four-seam fastball, curve, change-up, and two-seam fastball.

A recent SportsForce combine participant, Matt was an event standout with superior control and command for prep level athlete. Canyon Crest Academy head coach Ryan Sienko emphasized Matt’s abilities when questioned after the game by the North County Times saying that Matt, “…mixed his pitches really well. He is a hard working kid that pounds the strike zone.” Matt’s performance was truly spectacular and we at SportsForce want to congratulate the SportsForce alum on his great achievement and what will likely be an impressive and successful season.

Sport: Basketball Position: Forward Height: 6’7″ Class: 2010 School: Lincoln High School San Diego, CA

The Lincoln Hornets started out the season with the goal of taking the Division II state title and they are just steps away from it. A balanced team, with strong performances coming from many members, this week senior forward Victor Dean took the chance to step up against Compton. A captain for Lincoln, Dean scored a game high 19 points, the majority of which came after the half as Lincoln picked up momentum to take the lead after being down in the first half. Lincoln defeated Compton 60-52 and secured the Southern California Section D-II Title. Dean was also named to the first team for the All San Diego Section Basketball Team. Dean and the Lincoln Hornets will face off against Mountainview St. Francis in Bakersfield this weekend in search of the state title.

Sport: Basketball Positions: Guard Height: 6’1″ Class: 2010 School: Francis Parker High School San Diego, CA

Andrew Greenberg has been instrumental in powering the Francis Parker Lancers through the California State playoffs as they search for the Division IV State Title. Andrew scored a game high of 34 points, 24 of which came from three pointers as his team defeated Paraclete 64-40. Andrew’s massive scoring run against Paraclete helped the team move onto the semifinals where Greenberg helped seal the win over Horizon, scoring all 10 of his points that night in the final quarter. Francis Parker is scheduled to meet up with Price in the Southern California Finals this weekend.

Sport: Wrestling Weight: 119 Class: 2010 La Costa Canyon High School Carlsbad, CA

After two overtimes, Bryan Grubbs emerged the winner over Clovis West’s Zach Zimmer to take the state title for his 119 pound weight class at the state wrestling championship this past weekend. Grubbs defeated Zimmer 3-1 in a low scoring but evenly paired match with no shortage of action. Grubbs followed in family footsteps by taking the title as his uncle won two state titles while another uncle placed three times at state in their high school days. Grubbs himself has two state titles, the one in California that he just earned, and one in Texas where he was also a student athlete.

Sport: Wrestling Weight: 132 Class: 2011 School: Morse High School San Diego, CA

Morse High School junior, Joshua Joseph, has dominated all of his opponents this season on his way to a 25-1 overall record. This past weekend, Joshua finished out the near perfect season by dominating his opponent, Billy Reyes of LaCosta Canyon, to earn the 2010 San Diego D-2 Section Title for his respective weight class.
