PERSONAL STATEMENT
I have lived all my life with baseball, ever since I was three. Baseball to me is much more than a game. I have learned so much, and one of the things that I love about it is that "It ain't over till it's over"- Yogi Berra. What this means to me is that no matter how bad a situation is, there is always hope. You are not timed by time itself, but how you use your chances. My life is ultimately in the hands of my Creator, but my goal is to honor Him through playing baseball.

Joshua and I have been working together since he as the age of nine. Joshua has a great understanding about the basic fundamentals of hitting. He has improved in his mental and physical approach and he's able to make adjustments easier to be consistent as a good hitter.
Joshua's makeup has blossomed because of his consistent ability to work hard on the field and in the classroom. Because of his work ethics, he has become a player that would be a great asset to any college team.
I feel, as a coach, that he is versatile player with great baseball instincts. His strong throwing arm gives him the ability to pitch and his running speed enhances his athletic ability to play infield and outfield. |

Josh has been a varsity starter since his sophomore year at Monta Vista. Josh is a talented athlete with a great baseball IQ. His versatility has given me the freedom to confidently play him at numerous defensive positions, from 3B, SS, 1B, OF, and P. Josh is a hard worker with determination to succeed at the next level. Offensively, he is the four hitter for the Matadors and currently leads the league in RBIs. Josh is a traditional gap hitter and has the confidence and strength to use the opposite field. He is a tough out, with a good eye, forcing pitchers to go deep into counts. He has the bat control and confidence to hit with 2 strikes and knows when to swing freely and when to shorten up.
I feel confidently that Josh will be a key player for MV for the rest of his 11th grade year and into his 12th grade year. He has the height, strength and desire…and best of all, wants to continue to get better. |

I have been working with Joshua on his pitching for number of years. He has shown great growth in his Mechanics, Determination, Competitiveness, and Winning attitude. When we first started working he was full of natural athleticism. Over the years he has harnessed his ability and applied that along with a “True Grit” mentality to sports and academics. He comes from a good family background which supports him and has taught him the value of working hard for the things he wants to accomplish.
Pitching:
He loves to Pitch, I can see it every time we start to work on his delivery, philosophy, and mental conditioning. Joshua has a strong knowledge of the basic mechanics. He really has grasped the idea that if you stay consistent with your delivery, you (as a Pitcher) can be more effective with hitting your spots. With the attitude that drives him to success, he continues to grow and learn despite the desire to forget the much needed routines of Flat work, basic Mechanics Drills, and the sometimes dreaded conditioning drills. He stays true to throwing Strikes and let the defense do their job.
His 2-seam has good late sink, a good 4-seam, complimented by a Change-up with a good change of speeds and late downwards movement. He throws a late breaking Slider with the confidence to throw it in any count. He utilizes his tall frame and closes the distance to the plate. Fields his position well with his athleticism and understanding of the situations. |

Offense - Joshua began the season as a middle of the line-up hitter (#3,4,5). Although he is not a prototypical lead-off hitter he finished the season hitting lead-off when it became apparent that he was our best alternative there. He is a good contact hitter with occasional power. He is a disciplined hitter with a good idea of the strike zone. He has above average speed and good base-running instincts.
Defense - Joshua is a versatile player that I would be comfortable using at any position on the field. He pitched and played shortstop most of the season for us because that's where we felt he was most valuable. At SS, he has consistently good hands, good range and a strong arm. He is also a solid outfielder.
Pitching - Joshua is a "pound the strike zone", pitch-to-contact pitcher. While not overpowering, hitters had trouble making hard contact. His low pitch counts allowed him to work deep into many games.
Overall - Joshua was co-MVP of our frosh-soph league, the only freshman I can remember to accomplish that in my ten years. He has a good baseball IQ, is coachable, and consistently works hard in practice to get better. He always competes hard and is a good teammate. |
