Ethan is at 5'11" 2017 catcher with an athletic build, he showed quickness and above average ability to catch the ball and throw it, his arm was slightly behind his actions as an average arm, but one with potential to be above avg. His pop times during the workout were between 2.18 and 2.34, and an in-game throw at 2.19. Ethan can block the ball well in the games and has soft hands and a nice set up. His BP swings were flat with solid swing path he did not have much of a load and he did not use his legs during his swing much. Ethan stroked a triple during the game and had a couple ground balls mixed in. As a 2017 grad Ethan should jump up on the radar as a strong defender once he builds up more strength in both his arm and his lower half.

BAWS Futures 2013 WriteUp:
ETHAN GO (2017), C/INF (R/R), 5'9" 135, WESTMONT HS, 3.83 GPA – Young backstop who likes to work hard at the game, willing to block though he tends to come up too early (just needs a lot more reps), did a nice job receiving and was particularly good on the low pitch, pop times will drop as his raw arm strength improves (was around 2.20-2.25 in the workout), seems like the type of kid willing to put in the work to get better, top hand worked well in his swing, was in decent position at contact, needs strength to be able to drive the ball, swing mechanics are close. Ethan is a hard-working, motivated young man with a great work ethic. He is a natural leader with a rare ability to lead by example and mentor teammates who may be struggling. He led our team both athletically and academically and is a prime example of what you are looking for in a student athlete.
We used Ethan as a “shut down” cornerback, kick and punt returns and as a receiver on offense. Ethan rarely left the field during a game and I never had concerns about him competing at 100% on every play. He never took a play off. If I pulled him out to try and give him a break he would come straight to me and make it clear he was fine.
Ethan picked up new things quickly and was quick to recognize what the other team was doing. This, along with his physical ability made him an essential part of the team. I could lock him up on an outside receiver and double cover somewhere else, knowing I had nothing to worry about on his side. We would often lock him up on the other team’s best receiver because we knew we had the better player.
On Offense whenever we were in a critical situation, Ethan was out “go to” guy. Our quarterback was good, but he knew all he had to do was get the ball close and Ethan would go get it. He has great hands but was also very effective after the catch.
Ethan is a personable student athlete with a great attitude and work ethic. He is self-motivated and strives for perfection. He was “All-League” for us on defense, but could have easily won the honor on both sides of the ball and special teams. I still refer to his play when I am coaching younger players and need to identify an example. I would love to have a team full of Ethan Go’s but he is a very unique player. Ethan will be an asset to any team.

Ethan is an extremely hard working young man who strives to be a leader both on and off the field. He has a tremendous understanding of the game and uses this knowledge to think like a coach as runs the defense from behind the plate. |
