Dan Thurston grew up in Mooresville, Indiana which is a suburb on the Southwest side of Indianapolis. He graduated and played baseball, basketball and tennis at Mooresville High School. While in high school, Dan was an All-Conference player in baseball (3 times), basketball (2 times) and tennis (once) and was Honorable Mention All-State in baseball during his senior year. Dan played baseball at Hanover College. He was the Freshman of the Year on the conference and All-Conference twice while at Hanover.
Dan is a retired police officer from the City of Madison Police Department. He served 24 years and was Chief of Police for over 5 years. Dan has over 25 years of coaching baseball at various levels. He has coached at the youth levels, high school levels and travel teams. Dan owned and operated the Indiana Rawlings Tigers travel baseball organization and Long Toss Indiana baseball training facility before selling it in 2018.
Dan and his wife of 31 years, Jackie, currently live in Madison, Indiana. They have three adult children, Trey (28), Ryan (25) and Trisha (22). Dan enjoys coaching and instructing student-athletes because there are so many life skills that can be taught with athletics, especially baseball, that will carry on with the player far beyond when their playing career is over.
