We would like to congratulate Joseph Mead on his commitment to California Lutheran University. Here are Joseph’s recruiting story and interview with his family. Good luck as a Kingsmen!
1. Share your recruiting story and status
I started working with SportsForce on March 10th, 2020. My recruiting story is probably a little different than most. Recovering from an injury during parts of my sophomore and junior seasons, I spent a lot of time rehabbing and trying to stay healthy. Fortunately, my shortened senior baseball season was very productive, and with the help of the SportsForce team I was able to share my story, accomplishments and videos with colleges that I wanted to attend. SportsForce helped me think about what was most important to me in choosing a college. Because of the COVID shortened baseball season, the stress of the process was very overwhelming. It was great to have someone who really knew the recruiting process and could provide great advice and feedback based on experience. SportsForce helped me create a video and letter for an email that I sent out to college baseball coaches that I was interested in. One of the colleges that showed interest was California Lutheran, in Thousand Oaks, CA. I narrowed my list to 3 colleges that I visited, and chose California Lutheran in late July.
2. What school are you going to, and why did you choose them?
I selected California Lutheran because I felt more at home there. There is lots of support for students coming in from out of state and it checked a lot of the boxes on my college requirements checklist. SportsForce was easily accessible and very helpful during this stressful time. I made my selection because of the baseball program, culture and proximity to home. I also selected it because I wanted to choose a school that without baseball, I would want to attend.
3. How did SportsForce help in the process?
SportsForce counseled us every step of the way. They helped calm our family down during the pandemic when it seemed like rosters were filling up and we weren’t going to be able to visit any colleges. Without SportsForce I don’t think the California Lutheran opportunity would have even come about. SportsForce also brought some proven research tools to our search that helped us reach and consider some colleges that I would have not considered.
4. What advice would you give to other players and parents with the recruiting process (ex. start early, get a highlight video)?
The earlier you start, the better but definitely start early. In my situation, with an injury, I had missed a key recruiting time during my sophomore and junior years as I was not able to attend some of the camps that I would have received good exposure. If I had started working with SportsForce earlier in the process, let’s say even freshman year, I would have been in a better position. SportsForce did a great job compiling my latest videos and leading us through the recruiting process. If you have any interest in playing baseball after high school, I would start this process early.
5. How excited are you about your future in college?
Before you get involved in the recruiting process you have a picture in your mind of what happens during the recruiting process. More excited than I was going into my Senior year of high school.
6. How much money do you estimate your family saving in college expenses over the entirety of your college career? (Includes, Athletic scholarships, Academic scholarships, & financial aid)
Roughly $100,000 based on the grants, school scholarship and other aid that does not have to be repaid.
7. Would you recommend SportsForce to any other student-athletes? Why?
We would absolutely recommend SportsForce. Andrew and his team are professionals in every sense. Deciding on where to go to college is arguably one the most important decisions I will make in my life. The process is overwhelming, it can be really paralyzing to not know where to start, how to start and what to start with. SportsForce gets you started, and is available to advise and direct every step of the way. If any prospective athletes would like to speak with me about SportsForce, I would be happy to speak with them.
Over the last 12 years, SportsForce has helped over 1,000 student-athletes and families successfully navigate the college recruiting and athletic scholarship process while saving families on average $80,000 in college expenses.
Our Mission at SportsForce Baseball:

Read below, why we are different from every recruiting group in the country.
Why SportsForce is Different:
* View our Home Page Video Unlike most recruiting companies, we do not just partner with anyone for our hands-on recruiting programs. Instead, we only partner with qualified players who meet our Five academic, athletic, and coachability selection factors.
We evaluate between 10,000-12,000 players each summer and fall at top showcases and selectively advise, and advocate for only a limited number of players each year by directly contacting college coaches to help them maximize recruiting offers.
Each of our expert college recruiters is limited to how many players they will advise so there is the best combination of hands-on guidance and personal recruiting outreach to college coaches.
